Has the balloon festival reached its prime?

The 24th annual Hot Air Balloon Festival, presented by the Plainville Fire Company, is Friday, Aug. 22 to Sunday, Aug. 24. It is considered to be one of the biggest and last remaining balloon festivals in the Northeast. Some critics say that has reached its prime and should be discontinued. Do you think it is beneficial to town in that it attracts visitors? What did you think of the revised parking for Friday's fireworks?

The balloon fest is a great

The balloon fest is a great way for Plainville residents to get together and enjoy an evening out. Unfortunately, with the new parking restrictions, I can see that an already dwindling crowd will get smaller. This will adversely affect all the vendors that try and sell their goods during this time.

Balloons over the hill?

Those who say the Plainville Balloon Festival should be discontinued are wrong on so many levels! The Balloon Festival is an outstanding event that adds beauty and the spirit of adventure to our lives. It is an educational event for children who learn the science behind the balloon's ability to become airborne. It inspires us to remember the pioneers of aviation who sought new challenges and had the courage to try to conquer new horizons. It is an awe-inspiring sight to see a sky filled with hot air balloons, reminiscent of another time when we were less jaded and more optimistic. A sky dotted with colorful balloons is an unexpected thing of beauty that lifts the spirits and makes us smile. In a world increasingly made dull by corporate sameness, the Balloon Festival is a truly breathtaking event that breaks out of the mold.

Plainville Balloon Festival

I think the balloon festival should continue to be held. For those that grew up in Plainville it was always something to do and even come back for. Though I no longer live in Plainville, I still try and come back for the balloom festival each year. I have been going since I was young when my grandfather used to bring me. It would be a shame if the festival wasn't around for my own children when I have them

I think the show should continue for as many years as possible. It is great activity for the weekend.

balloon festival

I think the balloon festival is great and should indeed continue. However I do believe it needs an infusion of new ideas to make it even better and something that more vendors and people all over will want to be a part of.. adding a carnival to the mix, or a petting zoo might be something, having the committee go to the west hartford day and solicit some of those vendors to increase the offerings.. more thought to what else may bring people out during the day on sat... more food vendors.. etc. It needs to be more dynamic...but should definitely continue...
