PHS baseball job goes to Mandeville

The Plainville High School baseball team has found its man.
Lou Mandeville, a veteran coach and well-known figure in town, has been handed the reins of the program.
Mandeville's predecessor, Bob Freimuth, stepped down recently after 27 years on the job.

BOYS BASKETBALL
The schedule-makers certainly didn’t give the Plainville High School boys basketball team much time to shake off any lingering rust.
The new-look Blue Devils locked up with a pair of tough squads, on the road, right out of the gate this season – Farmington and Masuk-Monroe – and came up short in both outings.

Senior center bowlers of the month for November

The Plainville Senior Center Bowling League announced that Carter Casida, Helen Tessier and Gil Theriault won the title of bowlers of the month for November 2011. The league meets at Laurel Lanes, 136 New Britain Ave., Plainville, on Mondays at 1 p.m. There is a cost per person, per week and includes three games of bowling, open bowling discount card, automatic scoring and free weekly beverage. Bowlers of all abilities, including beginners, are welcome to join this league. For more information, contact Frank Robinson, bowling league president, at (860) 747-2918.

The Blue Devils topped Windham Tech, 4-3 in overtime, that afternoon to earn a spot in the Final Four. The Blue Devils, a seventh seed, fell 2-0 to No. 3 Suffield Friday in the semifinals.

Another milestone

Caption: 
Plainville High School basketball’s all-time scoring leader Desiree Pina netted her 1,000th career point for Fairfield University Sunday in a 56-47 victory over the University of the Pacific. Pina’s 1,000th point came on a 3-pointer at the 8:49 mark in the second half. The senior guard is the 24th player in program history to achieve the scoring milestone.
