Criminals who commit identity theft in Connecticut will now face tougher penalties and provide restitution to their victims through the sale of their illegally gained assets. These changes to existing statutes come about thanks to a bill supported by General Law Committee Chairman Sen. Thomas Colapietro (D-Bristol) and signed into law by Gov. M. Jodi Rell this week.

At a ceremony in New Haven on Oct. 2, the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association named state state Sen. Thomas A. Colapietro their "Legislator of the Year" for his support of legislation designed to curb the theft of metal in Connecticut.
