Snow and ice collapsed the roof of the hall at the Congregational Church of Plainville, 130 W. Main St., late Tuesday night.

The hall is where church meetings are frequently held.

Plainville Day Care is also located at the church beneath the hall. It was closed Tuesday because of the winter storm.

No meetings were being held at the time.

A Plainville woman got one of the biggest surprises of her 93 years when she stopped by the thrift shop where she has volunteered for several decades. The Plainville Thrift Shop, located at 130 W. Main St., had been closed for its usual two-week summer hiatus during which it was rejuvenated.
