Daisy Scouts beautify their community

Members of Plainville Daisy Troop 66586 along with their families spent an afternoon cleaning up trash at Norton Park. They were able to collect several bags and buckets of garbage, helping to "make the world a better place" while earning their rose-colored Daisy petal.

Dog bites woman at park; owner flees

The Plainville Police Department is investigating a report of a dog bite that happened in Norton Park at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday. A 16-year-old female stopped to pet a brindle-colored pit-bull type dog near the new skate board compound when the animal suddenly bit her in the face.

Skateboard ribbon-cutting Saturday morning

Skaterboarders and bikers have been flocking to the new skate park in Plainville since it opened up several weeks ago. On Saturday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to noon, it will officially open. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. and will include comments from Thomas Warnat, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; state Rep.

Skate park unofficially opens

Nzinga's Daughters

Nzinga's Daughters, a woman's music group based in Plainville, performs at the Norton Park summer concert series. They will also be featured in a free concert tomorrow, July 31, at The Bushnell Belden Theater, 166 Capital Ave., in Hartford, when the Queen Ann Nzinga Center will present its annual Music from the African Diaspora. The program will be emceed by Nikki Mathis and Alvin Carter Sr. Featured music includes Nzinga’s Daughters, R & B, and the gospel sound of Voices. In addition, the program will feature the rockin’ bluesy sound of Changes. New this year is the Latin sound of Ray Gonzalez’ Latin Jazz Quartet and the sulky, soul sound of Fade to Black. Other special guest performers include Nzinga’s Watotos, Savannah Freitas, Asha Follins and Aalaya Hardy. This musical event is made possible by a grant from the Evelyn Preston Memorial Fund, Greater Harford Arts Council, The George A. and Grace L. Long Foundation, and The Michael and Janet Suisman Community Access Fund. Admission is free.
