We sent this picture to our parents today - Sunday, Dec. 26 - after I did the driveway for the first time this afternoon after the storm started and before it got too bad. Both sets of parents just moved to Florida earlier this year. Mine from Watertown and my girlfriend's from Spring Lake here in town. They called to see how the first storm of the year was going so we needed to send them something cute. Thought the readers might find it amusing as well.... Russ Gorman & Cheryl Sisko

Maintenance on I-84 Eastbound Aug. 23-27

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a bridge maintenance project will be performed on I-84 (eastbound) from Exit 31 to 34 in Southington/Plainville.  This project is scheduled to take place on Monday, August 23, 2010 and continue through Friday, August 27, 2010.

Absentee ballot applications available

Absentee ballots are now available for any Connecticut voters who will be out of town or otherwise unavailable to go to their polling place and cast a ballot in statewide primaries on Aug. 10.

The Citizen newspapers collecting for military

The Plainville/Southington Citizen newspapers will be participating in the second annual Military Overseas Care Packages Drive coordinated by Southington Fire Co. 1. The office will have a drop box so items can be collected at 40 N. Main St., Southington, during regular weekday business hours.

H1N1 immunization clinic on Dec. 21 and 22

Public H1N1 flu immunization clinics have been scheduled, by appointment only, Monday, Dec. 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Southington Health Department, 93 Main St., second floor.

Southington Italian Festival this weekend

The Southington Italian-American Festival will be held Friday, July 24 through Sunday, July 26 on Center Street between North Liberty and High streets (previously Factory Square). Festival hours are Friday, 5 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.

Missing woman found

Early Thursday morning, after seeing herself reported missing on television, Ruby Hendrix went to Southington Police Department headquarters.  She told police she has been staying with a friend out of town and was safe.  According to police, Hendrix allegedly had some problems with her brother, Joshua Prink, who she had been residing with, and does not wish to return to his address.
