Local Relay for Life steps out June 14-15

The annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Plainville will be held Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 15, noon to noon, at Norton Park in Plainville.

The tentative schedule follows:

Saturday, June 14
Noon - Registration begins, set up of sites, official welcome to Relay For Life of Plainville by event chairpersons, music by DJ Eric Wells and decorate your own luminaria.
1 to 3 p.m. - Team lap and photos. Teams should bring banners.
3 p.m. - Opening Ceremony: speaker Ken Miller, professor from Yale University, presentation of colors/pledge of allegiance with Cub Scout Pack 49, national anthem with Melissa Burritt, welcome and introduction of Relay Committee.
3:30 p.m. - Survivor and caregiver laps. Only survivors and caregivers are asked to be on the track during this lap; the public is welcome to cheer on survivors and their caregivers in this lap around the track. After the lap, survivors and their caregivers are invited to the pavilion for a reception.
4 p.m. - Survivor reception
5 p.m. - Quitter's lap for those who have quit smoking.
5:30 p.m. - Fitness lap and Zumba fitness demo by Core Studio
6 p.m. - Celebration lap
6:15 to 7:45 p.m. - Kids' University, for children ages 5 to 12; meet at the pavilion for fun activities, cost $1.
6:30 to 8 p.m. - Music by New Earth
8:30 p.m. - Plainville Choral Society
9 p.m. - Luminaria remembrance speaker: Skip Burritt; remembrance lap: carry pictures or mementos of loved ones
10 p.m. - Purple lap
10:30 p.m. to midnight - Music by Sonoma Front
11 p.m. - Glow lap
11 p.m. - Pajama lap
Midnight - Pizza at pavilion, movie and popcorn: "Grease" and "Rocky"
Midnight to 6:30 a.m. - Quiet time. Even though it's late, strive to keep at least one team member walking the track at all times, because cancer never sleeps!

Sunday, June 15
6:30 a.m. - Wake up: Jessica Foerstsch to play Reveille
7 a.m. - Coffee and bagels in pavilion/Father's Day celebration.
8 a.m. - Gather for aerial flyover, weather permitting,
9 a.m. - Rock era lap, 1950s to 1990s: participants are welcome to dress up from their favorite era
10 a.m. - Fight back ceremony and fight back lap: Teams should carry their banner, boxing gloves or punch balls.
10:30 a.m. - Team captains' lap: Captains should carry their banner.
11 a.m. - a.m. Closing Ceremony (Site cleanup is after this ceremony.) Presentation of team awards: best site, most creative site, best team spirit, walkers on track at all times, participation in special laps, banner team fundraising, highest total dollars by teams with 15 or fewer members, youth team fundraising, highest youth team, best use of theme, use of "Relay Rocks" theme
Noon - All campsites cleaned up and ready to leave.
