No flooding this winter, police say

Despite snow melt and intense rain this week, Plainville streets have managed to stay flood-free, said Plainville Police Capt. Peter Costanzo. "It's been an OK winter so far," he said.

Residents of areas prone to flooding such as Roberts Street Extension have not reported any problems. Last year, some residents on that street had to be evacuated by fire department personnel.

Costanzo said he thinks that the ground has not completely frozen this winter and that excess water is able to soak into the soil rather than running off into nearby streets. Drainage on Ciccio Court, one area that was prone to flooding, was improved and is no longer a trouble spot, Costanzo said.

If residents see flooding, they should report it to the police department, (860) 7474-1616.
