Plainville cabinet manufacturer to receive $500,000 state loan
Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced June 23 that $2.25 million in state loans will help three Connecticut manufacturers, including a Plainville cabinet manufacturer, and a major aerospace and defense contractor. Rell said the loans, approved by the Connecticut Development Authority, will help create and retain more than 100 jobs through expansion, equipment purchases and other improvements.
Plainville loan recipient is Connecticut Solid Surface, which makes custom cabinetry and quartz and stone countertops. A $500,000 loan will allow the company to consolidate its operations from facilities in three different locations under one roof and will provide additional space for future growth. Connecticut Solid Surface employs 23 people full-time, and expects to increase that number to 30 in the near future.
“Economic recovery for Connecticut absolutely requires that we keep the jobs we have and create new ones for sustainable prosperity,” Rell said. “These employers have made a commitment to do business in Connecticut and it is essential we support their allegiance.
“The Connecticut workforce is one of the best educated and most productive in the nation and small businesses remain the backbone of our economy,” Rell said. “The men and women who fill these factories and staff these offices need to be assured that keeping their jobs here at home is our top priority.”
Since January, CDA has approved more than $19 million in financing to businesses across Connecticut and has helped retain and create nearly 1,800 jobs. That $19 million has leveraged another $50 million in non-state assistance.
A second loan recipient is Beacon Industries, of Bloomfield, which manufactures premier aerospace components for the global market. The company will receive $1 million in working capital from the CDA and financial assistance from People’s United Bank and will help retain the 120 employees.
Accel International Holdings, of Meriden, will receive a $750,000 CDA loan for new machinery and equipment. Accel International Holdings is a manufacturer of high-performance, ultra-fine copper wire that has various applications in the aerospace, military, medical, automotive, electronics and telecommunications industries. The company supports 30 full-time jobs, having nearly doubled their staff in the last four years and expects to add 13 positions.
The CDA is a member of the governor’s economic development team, stimulating investment in commercial and industrial businesses and creating jobs that contribute to the state’s economy, technology base, intellectual capital and infrastructure.
